Piano

David Holland began piano lessons at age six and later added the trumpet at age ten. He continued with both instruments through high school.

From age fourteen to seventeen, he was a piano student of Edna Lund at the MacPhail School of Music in Minneapolis. During this time he was soloist with the MacPhail Symphony in the Concerto in d minor of Anton Rubinstein and with the Hopkins High School Orchestra in the Concerto for two trumpets by Corelli.

Mr. Holland's undergraduate studies were at the University of Minnesota where he studied piano with Paul Freed, counterpoint with Paul Fetler and advanced theory with Dominic Argento. He earned the Bachelor of Arts degree.

His graduate studies were at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where he studied piano with Arthur Tollefson, Pedagogy with Francis Larimer, and piano chamber music with Robert Weirich. He earned the Master of Music degree.

Other intellectual study includes three years at the University of Minnesota as a PhD candidate in Comparative Literature, and study abroad at the University of Bochum, Germany under a scholarship from the D.A.A.D.

Other piano study includes advanced technique with Alexander Braginsky, special pedagogy study with Kathy Faricey, and summer workshops in the U.S. and Europe.

Professional activities have included five years as accompanist for the Minnesota Dance Theater and participant in voice recitals.

More recently, Mr. Holland has been on the faculty of the Chaska School of Music for three years and maintains an independent studio.

Mr. Holland is currently Masters certified by MMTA.
